Center for Attention

The Center for Attention
The Center for Attention’s mission is to provide a conducive environment for social and community interaction in Key West and beyond, between multi-media and installation guest artists and members of the local community. Powered by Idealistic impulses transformed into pragmatic forces: (1) Each guest artist will be presented with a specific community concern and the time to develop relationships with public and private representatives of the differing sides and solutions inherent in a healthy conversation about said concern; (2) Each artist will be provided with living and work space, as well as selected materials to construct their installation or exhibit over a 4 week residency; (3) At the conclusion of each artist’s residency an art installation will be temporarily placed and exhibited that further advances the important cohesive social and cultural identity of the Key West community; (4) The final intersection of art and community will take the form of an open forum with the artist and members of the community evaluating the performative success of the artist’s work.

Miguel Paredes' Los Ninos
Miami based artist Miguel Paredes unveils his newest series of paintings, Los Ninos. Paredes is one of those rare painters who has no qualms about putting himself completely out there. Everything he does he attacks with the resolve to make the last painting his absolute best and with this new series he has upped the ante by taking what he calls "the best creation in his life to date", his children, and building a powerful and determined attempt to blend the present with the future. These paintings, like every painting Paredes has ever created, are first and foremost about the artist's deeply personal and spiritual experiences. He pulls no punches and wastes no time giving us the full power of his skill and his bold, unabashed truth. The Paredes film Los Ninos can be viewed by clicking the following link:

Paredes Goes POW! Pieces of Time.
Artist Miguel Paredes is a phenomenon. A self-taught painter who works in multi-media, Paredes creates deeply personal narratives from his own life experience. In this rare interview, the artist talks about the driving forces behind his work: his family, his early years in New York City, the challenge of creating something personal, the need for "attitude", and the precious nature of time.
